Dolly Parton's 9 to 5 musical kicks off UK tour in October

Date: 24 March 2012

Note: This story has now been updated to include full tour dates (27 March 2012)

As previously tipped by Whatsonstage.com, Dolly Parton musical 9 to 5 is coming to the UK later this year, kicking off a UK tour in Manchester in October.

9 to 5: the Musical  is a comedy of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era. This new musical comedy, direct from Broadway, is based on the hit movie and features Dolly Parton's original hit title song along with her new Tony Award and Grammy nominated score.

The book is by Patricia Resnick (co-writer of the original screenplay) and tells the story of three unlikely friends who conspire to take control of their company and learn there's nothing they can't do - even in a man's world.

On Broadway the three female secretaries out for revenge were played by Alison Janney, Stephanie J Block, and Megan Hilty and their male chauvinist boss was played by Marc Kudisch.

Dolly Parton said:  "I am so excited that 9 to 5 the Musical is coming to the UK. I'm hoping you have as much fun watching it as I had writing the music for it. 9 to 5 the Musical is perfect for anyone that's ever wanted to string up their boss, which is almost all of us."

The tour opens at Manchester Opera House from 12 to 20 October, 2012. It will subsequently visit the New Wimbledon Theatre (21-27 October), Sunderland Empire (28 October-3 November), Woking New Victoria (5-10 November), Glasgow King's Theatre (12-17 November), Stoke Regent Theatre (18-24 November), Edinburgh Playhouse (26 November-1 December), Oxford New Theatre (2-8 December), Theatre Royal Brighton (9-15 December) and Birmingham New Alexandra Theatre (16 December-5 January).

Tickets will go on sale in all venues at 4.51pm (nine to five!) on Tuesday 27 March.
