Elevator Repair Service bring Gatz to Noel Coward with LIFT

Date: 2 February 2012

New York company Elevator Repair Service will bring their eight-hour staging of The Great Gatsby, Gatz, to the West End's Noel Coward Theatre as part of the London International Festival of Theatre (LIFT).

The production, which was previously seen at New York's Public Theater in 2010, will run from 8 June to 15 July 2012. Prior to coming to London the production will be reprised at the Off-Broadway Newman Theatre, running from 14 March to 6 May.

Gatz is a word-for-word dramatisation of F Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 novel The Great Gatsby.

One morning in the shabby office of a mysterious small business, an employee finds a copy of the novel in the clutter on his desk. He starts to read it out loud and doesn't stop. At first his coworkers hardly notice. But after a series of strange coincidences, it's no longer clear whether he's reading the book or the book is transforming him.

Directed by John Collins, Gatz has a cast of 13 and features Scott Shepherd as Nick.

Gatz was created and developed by the Elevator Repair Service ensemble, which includes Laurena Allan, Jim Fletcher, Ross Fletcher, Lindsay Hockaday, Mike Iveson, Vin Knight, Aaron Landsman, Annie McNamara, Kate Scelsa, Susie Sokol, Lucy Taylor, and Ben Williams.
