Crazy for You announces West End closing date for 17 March

Date: 25 January 2012

The Open Air Theatre, Regent's Park's Novello Theatre transfer of George and Ira Gershwin's Crazy for You will play its final performance on 17 March 2012.

Timothy Sheader's production, which transferred to the Novello following a run as part of the Open Air Theatre's 2011 summer season, had previously been booking until 28 July 2012.

The 1992 Broadway musical, which combines a book by Ken Ludwig with some of the Gershwins' greatest hits transferred with the entire Open Air Theatre cast including Harriet Thorpe, David Burt, Sean Palmer, Clare Foster, Kim Medcalf and Michael McKell.

The Open Air's production reunited the artistic director Timothy Sheader with the multi-award winning creative team behind the theatre's Hello, Dolly! - choreographer Stephen Mear and designer Peter McKintosh. Musical director of Open Air's Into the Woods, Gareth Valentine, also returned. Lighting design is by Tim Mitchell.

Crazy for You is currently nominated for six Whatsonstage.com Awards for which voting closes on 31 January 2012. As well as competing for the title of Best Musical Revival stars Clare Foster, Sean Palmer, David Burt, Harriet Thorpe are all individually nominated, as is choreographer Stephen Mear.

The West End transfer is produced by Mark Goucher, Adam Spiegel and William Village.

The next production currently announced for the Novello Theatre is West End long-runner Mamma Mia! which moves to the venue from its home of 7 years, the Prince of Wales.

Written by Catherine Johnson with music by former ABBA members Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, Mamma Mia! closes at the Prince of Wales on 1 September, re-opening at the Novello on 6 September 2012.
