Cast: Myles & Fielding in Braff's People, Gillett in CountryDate: 11 January 2012
Eve Myles and Susannah Fielding will star alongside Zach Braff in the UK premiere of his Off-Broadway comedy All New People.
The production will run at the Manchester Opera House (8-11 February 2012) and the King's Theatre in Glasgow (14-18 February) prior to its transfer to the West End's Duke of York's Theatre, where it opens on 22 February for a strictly limited ten-week run.
Set in New Jersey getaway Long Beach Island in the dead of winter, All New People centres on Charlie (Braff), a heartbroken 35-year-old whose perfect escape is interrupted by a motley parade of misfits.
A hired beauty, a fireman, and an eccentric British real estate agent desperately trying to stay in the country all suddenly find themselves tangled together in a beach house where the mood is anything but sunny, while Charlie just wishes they’d leave and let him get on with it.
Eve Myles is best known for her role as Gwen in the BBC1 series Torchwood and has also appeared in Doctor Who, Belonging, Merlin and EastEnders.
Speaking about her new role, she said: “I'm delighted to have been cast as the character of Emma in such a well anticipated and funny play. Having concentrated on TV work recently I'm excited to be returning to the stage and I'm very much looking forward to working with Zach and Peter DuBois.”
Susannah Fielding has recently been seen in TV shows including Wallander, Doctor Who and Pete Versus Life, while on stage she has appeared with both the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre.
In other casting news, Aden Gillett (The Queen’s Sister, The Winslow Boy, Mary Poppins) and Phillip Whitchurch (Billy Elliot, Sharpe, The Bill) will lead a new revival of Timberlake Wertenbaker's Oliver Award-winning play Our Country's Good.
The production, which is directed by Alastair Whatley, kicks off at the Haymarket in Basingstoke from 25-28 January, before visiting the Rose, Kingston (30 January-4 February) and embarking on a 16-venue UK tour until 26 April.
Based on real life events, the play charts the arrival of The First Fleet in Australia and their attempt to stage a production of The Recruiting Officer.
The revival is produced by Original Theatre Company following their recent productions of See How They Run, Twelfth Night, Dancing at Lughnasa, The Madness of George III and Journey’s End.
