WOS Radio: The First Critics at the Cri Debate

Date: 6 October 2011

Whatsonstage.com has teamed up with the West End's Criterion Theatre as media partners of their new monthly lunchtime debate, Critics at the Cri, which will see eminent drama critics and cultural commentators parse recent openings with a live audience of theatregoers.

Following a similar format to TV programmes such as The Review Show, but with the unique incentive of live, on-stage access, Critics at the Cri allows the general public the rare opportunity to see the city’s leading critical voices in action.

Today's (6 October 2011) Critics at the Cri debate features Whatsonstage.com’s own chief critic Michael Coveney, along with Patrick Marmion (Daily Mail), Clemency Burton-Hill (The Culture Show) and former Spandau Ballet frontman-turned-actor Gary Kemp.

The Criterion’s producer Sam Hodges chairs the panel as they discus three productions opening this month: the world premiere of Mike Leigh’s Grief at the National, head-banging Broadway compilation musical import Rock of Ages and the Old Vic revival of JM Synge’s Irish classic The Playboy of the Western World.

Below is an archive of Whatsonstage.com live tweeting from the event.

The 6 November 2011 panel will also include Toby Young with other panel members and the productions being discussed still to be announced.
