Misery in Bournemouth

Misery in Bournemouth

Date: 14 September 2011

This October as part of the Arts by the Sea Festival, Theatre Giant is to present Simon Moore’s award winning adaptation of Misery by Stephen King. Critics have described Misery as “a stunning adaptation of the classic thriller” and the limited run of just four performances at Bournemouth’s Pavilion Theatre is not to be missed!

This twisted tale set in the depths of Colorado follows romantic fiction novelist Paul Sheldon (Josh Boyd-Rochford) as he is caught in a freak snow storm. After crashing his car, Paul cannot believe his luck when he is rescued by former nurse Annie Wilks (Josephine Liptrott) who just happens to be his number one fan. Unfortunately all is not as it seems as the audience is lead to the chilling discovery that meeting Annie may have been more than just fate.

Misery is Theatre Giant’s first performance incorporating their new graduate recruitment scheme which aims is to provide exciting creative platforms for emerging talent across the country by offering recent local graduates the chance to be involved in their first professional productions.

Earlier this year Theatre Giant’s creative director Peter Snee went to visit Arts University College at Bournemouth (AUCB) where he was impressed with recent graduates Yanika Waters and Heather Dinneen, who were later invited to design the Set and Costume for Misery. Peter is "very excited to bring such passionate and vibrant designers onboard this haunting production" and is hoping to bring on board other recent graduates from the institution for his next projects.

Misery is only the third play in two years come to the Pavilion theatre so in order to stimulate interest and encourage young people to become more involved in the theatre, Peter, the crew, and the cast will be giving a free talk after the matinee production for school and college groups.

Theatre Giant are also hoping to raise funds for some great local causes during this production having each performance affiliated with a different local charity: Cancer Research UK, The Round Table Children’s Wish, Julia's House and The Variety Club.

Misery will be playing at the Pavilion Theatre, Bournemouth on Wednesday 5th, Thursday 6th & Friday 7th October at 7.30pm with a matinee performance at 2.30pm on Thursday.
