Deathtrap Set to Thrill Coliseum

Date: 25 August 2011

Following recent success in the West End, the hit play Deathtrap is set to thrill audiences at the Oldham Coliseum next month when it opens their Autumn/Winter season.

Written by Ira Levin - the play is full of plot twists, frights and a healthy helping of laughs. Writer Sidney Bruhl’s luck has run out. Once the toast of Broadway, he hasn’t had a hit play in years. Young aspiring playwright Clifford Anderson, a student of one of Sidney’s writing classes, just so happens to have written the perfect play – Deathtrap – a juicy thriller.

Desperate for success, Sidney (played by Steven Pinder who starred in Brookside as Max Farnham) would do anything to claim Clifford’s play as his own. And then he comes up with a killer idea...

Deathtrap was a huge success when it first opened and ran for four years with over 1800 performances breaking the record for the longest running comedy thriller on Broadway. Levin penned several plays including Critic’s Choice (1960) and Veronica’s Room (1974) as well as many best-selling novels including Rosemary’s Baby (1967), The Stepford Wives (1972) and The Boys from Brazil (1976).

This Oldham Coliseum production also stars Andrew Cullimore (Clifford), Roberta Kerr (Helga ten Dorp), and Helen Kay (Myra). It is directed by Kevin Shaw and designed by Foxton and Deathtrap runs from 8 September - 1 October.
