Opening: Crazy for You, Donmar Christie, Mysteries & EIF

OPENING MONDAY, 8 August 2011 (previews from 28 July), the Open Air Theatre, Regent’s Park concludes its summer season with artistic director Timothy Sheader’s revival of classic Gershwin musical comedy Crazy for You.

The creative team behind the venue’s award-winning production of Hello, Dolly! reunite for the show, with Stephen Mear choreographing and design by Peter McKintosh. It continues until 10 September 2011.


OPENING TUESDAY, 9 August 2011 (previews from 4 August), Jude Law and Ruth Wilson star in Eugene O’Neill’s Anna Christie, directed by Rob Ashford, which runs at the Donmar Warehouse until 8 October 2011.

In O’Neill’s 1921 Broadway play, which won the Pulitzer Prize for drama, former prostitute Anna (Wilson), who was exiled from her home as a child, is reunited with the father who sent her away 15 years earlier and sets sail in search of a new beginning.


OPENING WEDNESDAY, 10 August 2011 (previews from 5 August), The Globe Mysteries, award-winning poet  Tony Harrison’s new version of the English Mystery Cycles, opens at Shakespeare’s Globe for a run to 1 October, directed by Deborah Bruce.  

ALSO ON WEDNESDAY (previews from 2 August), Antony Sher reprises his performance in Arthur Miller’s Broken Glass at the Tricycle Theatre for one month, prior to a West End transfer.


OPENING FRIDAY, 12 August 2011, the Edinburgh International Festival (EIF) commences in Scotland, joining its much larger off-spring the Edinburgh Fringe, which opened last week. This year’s festival is themed around a celebration of Asian culture, and continues until 4 September.
