Hampton's Mother Revived at Trafalgar, Melling Stars

Date: 3 August 2011

Christopher Hampton's 1964 debut play When Did You Last See My Mother? will be revived for the first time at Trafalgar Studios 2 from 16 September (previews from 14 September) to 8 October 2011.

Directed by Blanche McIntyre, whose recent credits include Accolade at the Finbourgh Theatre earlier this year, the production stars Harry Melling who is best known for his portrayal of Dudley in the Harry Potter film series. He was also recently seen in the National Theatre's Women Beware Women.

When Did You Last See My Mother? was first performed at the Royal Court in 1966, launching Hampton's career. Only 18 years old, it made him the youngest ever West End playwright.

Hampton won an Oscar in 1988 for his screen adaptation of his play Dangerous Liaisons and was Oscar-nominated for adapting Ian McEwan's novel Atonement for the screen. The 2007 features starred Keira Knightley and James McAvoy.

Set in 1965 When Did You Last See My Mother? sees Ian (Melling) broke, lonely and bursting with lovelorn wit. Worse, he's sharing a bedsit with the beautiful, infuriating and carefree Jimmy, who chases all the skirt he can.

When Did You Last See My Mother? is presented by Lindsay Fraser. It has design by Nicky Bunch.

Currently playing at Trafalgar Studios 2, Ian McFarlane's Betwixt!, a musical comedy starring Peter Duncan, Ellen Greene, Ashleigh Gray, Steven Webb and Benedict Salter, has announced it will extended its booking period from 20 August to 10 September 2011.
