Former glamour model Abi Titmuss will return this summer to the Edinburgh Fringe and Assembly, where she appeared last year in a revival of John Godber’s rugby comedy Up ‘n’ Under. This time she stars opposite Scottish actor Paul Blair in the European premiere of Stephen Belber’s dramatic two –hander Dusk Rings a Bell, which previewed in April at the HighTide Festival in Suffolk.

American playwright Stephen Belber is best known for Tape and The Laramie Project. In Dusk Rings a Bell, he continues his exploration of the roots of hate crimes and homophobia. The play, which had its world premiere last summer at New York's Atlantic Theatre, questions the effectiveness of the US penal system and whether the systems of 'restorative justice' are truly effective at forcibly eliminating prejudice.

The HighTide production is directed by artistic director Steven Atkinson. Titmuss plays Molly, the role taken in Suffolk by Katherine Kingsley. Commenting on the casting, Atkinson said: “I saw Abi on stage last year and she commanded the stage with an intelligence and easygoing charm that is rare. She auditioned for this and her talent was apparent and she brings a complete commitment to the role and Stephen's play.”

Titmuss added: “I feel very lucky to be returning to the Edinburgh Festival and the Assembly Rooms. I had so much fun at the Festival last year, and it is a thrill to be performing in this two-handed play by award-winning Stephen Belber alongside Paul Blair. It is a challenging role, but I feel I can relate to the character Molly.”
