Steps Stars Reunite in Rhinestone Country Musical

Date: 23 June 2011

As jukebox musicals go, this one is a little different. Rhinestone Mondays, which is believed to be the UK’s first Country & Western compilation musical comedy, will premiere on 31 August 2011 at the Mercury Theatre Colchester prior to a national tour.

Former Steps stars Faye Tozer and Ian 'H' Watkins star alongside EastendersShaun Williamson and Lyn Paul (taking a break from 13 years of playing Mrs Johnson in Blood Brothers) as members of the Warbleswick “Monday Night All Star Line Dancing Club” who fight, feud and fall in and out of love.

Written by Joe Graham and directed by Phil Wilmott, Rhinestone Mondays features a slew of Country hits including Billy Ray Cyrus’ “These Boots Are Made for Walking”, Patsy Cline’s “Crazy”, Tammy Wynette’s “Stand by Your Man”, Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire”, Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Achy Breaky Heart”, Roy Rodgers’ “Happy Trails” and Glen Campbell’s “Rhinestone Cowboy”.

The romantic comedy is produced by Ian Liston, Richard Ireson, and Paul Tyrer and Jamie Clark for The Booking Office, in a co-production with the Mercury Theatre, Colchester.

Following Colchester, Rhinestone Mondays visits Wolverhampton, Edinburgh, Southampton, Cardiff, Belfast, Newcastle, Dartford, Coventry, Dundee, Dublin and Wimbledon in south London, where the current schedule concludes on 26 November 2011.

Lyn Paul played the part of Mrs Johnstone,in Blood Brothers, not Johnson. Since that show she has also starred in the Boy George musical TABOO, and also FOOTLOOSE. A photo would have been good, she is lovely!!! - Phil Hughes
