WOS Winners Smith & Karimloo Join Gaumond Date: 6 May 2011
This year’s Whatsonstage.com Award-winning Best Actress in a Musical and Best Actor in a Musical, Sheridan Smith and Ramin Karimloo, will be reunited on Sunday 22 May 2011, when they join fellow 2011 Award nominee Alex Gaumond in Gaumond’s one-off concert at the Leicester Square Theatre.
Gaumond was nominated for both 2011 Whatsonstage.com and Olivier Best Actor in a Musical gongs this year for his performance as Elle Woods’ Harvard Law school squeeze Emmett in Legally Blonde, in which he originally starred opposite Sheridan Smith and now appears (until handing over to Lee Mead next month) alongside Susan McFadden at the Savoy Theatre.
Smith is now starring in Trevor Nunn’s production of Rattigan’s World War II play Flare Path at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, while Karimloo continues in his role as the Phantom in Love Never Dies at the Adelphi. Gaumond’s line-up of West End guest stars for the Leicester Square concert is completed by Sarah French, currently playing Scaramouche in We Will Rock You at the Dominion.
In other Whatsonstage.com Award-related events, this year’s adopted charity, The Theatrical Guild, is holding a series of interviews with leading theatre figures about the songs that inspire them.
The discussions. hosted by theatric critic and blogger Mark Shenton, will be interspersed with live performances of the chosen songs by Caroline Sheen, recently returned from her US starring role in Mary Poppins and soon to join the West End cast of Les Miserables. The interviews occur nightly at 8pm, with a 4pm matinee (the Sylvia Young interview) on Saturday 4 June.
