West Side Story is Liverpool's Stage ExperienceDate: 27 April 2011 A cast of young people from the local area, working with a professional creative team will star in a vibrant production of one of the most beloved musicals of all time, West Side Story at the Liverpool Empire.
The famous score includes such classics as "Tonight", "America", "Maria", "I Feel Pretty" and "Somewhere" and features a book by Arthur Laurents and the classic music of Leonard Bernstein and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. It also features Jerome Robbins stunning choreography.
West Side Story is a modern day adaptation of the timeless classic, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. The show tells the story of two young people, Maria and Tony, who fall in love, but are kept apart by their friends/families, causing grave consequences. The musical takes place on the west side of Manhattan, New York City and is set in 1950s.
This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Josef Wienberger on behalf of Music Theatre International of New York.
West Side Story runs from 4 - 6 August at the Liverpool Empire.
