Sky Unveils Fund for Projects & Emerging Artists

Date: 7 April 2011

Sky Arts have today (7 April 2011) launched a major new programme to support arts projects and emerging artists by helping them gain greater exposure for their work on their platforms and with cash investment from the newly created Sky Arts Ignition fund.

Operating in two strands, Sky Arts will work closely with as yet unselected artists and organisations and help young talent bridge the gap from school or college to becoming a working artist.

In one strand, the Sky Arts Ignition Series, the broadcaster will collaborate with six arts organisations over the next three years, providing cash investment of up to £200,000 and working to bring artist's projects to a wider audience, using Sky’s on-air, on demand, online platforms. Sky will also help with marketing, publicity and new media support for each project.

In parallel, the Futures Fund will support five individual artists with a bursary of £30,000 each which it hopes will nurture emerging talent.

John Cassy, director of Sky Arts said in a press statement: "We're incredibly excited about taking our arts partnerships to the next level with the Sky Arts Ignition Series. This is the natural evolution to the work we've been doing on and off the screen for the past four years."

Director Richard Eyre, who has supported and consulted on the development of the fund added: "This is an exemplary partnership between a broadcaster and the arts. I hope Sky's model will be copied. It's to everyone's advantage."

Arts organisations invited to apply at www.sky.com/skyartsignition.
