Short Shrift at The Bike Shed

Date: 21 March 2011

International playwright Peter Oswald is to perform his work at The Bike Shed Theatre, Exeter. Short Shrifts by Attentions Seekers Productions will play at the Bike Shed Theatre, Exeter, April 5 - April 9 at 7:30pm.

Peter Oswald is a renowned playwright, and his work has been performed around the world. Formally writer in residence at The Globe (1996 - 2005) Peter has had his work staged in the West End and at the National Theatre, which has recently commissioned him for another project. However, Devon being his home it seems natural that he would want to lay down some theatre roots in the region too. So the performance company Attention Seekers Productions was born.

Together with the poet Alice Oswald (his wife), actress Josephine Larsen and musician Martin Holland, Peter founded Attention Seekers a few years ago. All four artists have worked together for a number of years, and their latest project centres on a series of short plays written by Peter himself: Short Shrifts. The plays, accompanied by live original music, will be performed by Peter, Josephine and Martin.

So far Short Shrifts has been shown in unusual locations around Devon and Berlin, but now Attention Seekers are bringing this unique show to Exeter for its longest run yet. From April 5 to April 9 Short Shrifts will be showing at the Bike Shed Theatre. As Exeter’s newest performance venue the Bike Shed is making a huge impact on theatre in Devon, and will be the perfect setting for this intimate show.

Short Shrifts invites audiences on a spell-binding journey. Peter's plays re-discover the complexity of the human spirit in all its manifestations of comedy, tragedy, farce, the surreal, and the very real.
