Musical Cast: Boys & Atherton Days, Company

Former Avenue Q co-stars Julie Atherton and Daniel Boys will reunite to lead the cast of Adam Gwon’s musical Ordinary Days when it transfers to Trafalgar Studios 2 next month.

The production, which runs from 10 February to 5 March 2011 (previews from 8 February), was first seen at the Finborough Theatre in 2008, when it marked the show’s European premiere.

The musical - about “growing up and enjoying the view” - explores how the ordinary lives of four New Yorkers are turned into something extraordinary by the catalyst of one seemingly small event. When Deb loses the notes to her graduate thesis, she loses her most valued possession. The lives of four other individuals are then woven into the story which looks at the connections between people and events.

Ordinary Days, which is directed by Adam Lenson, will also feature Lee William-Davis who, like Atherton, was a member in the cast of the original run at the Finborough.

New Yorker Adam Gwon is a multi-award winning composer/lyricist with a growing reputation. His other musicals include Bernice Bobs Her Hair, Lulu and Some Place Like Home.

Joining the previously announced Rupert Young, Siobhan McCarthy and Cassidy Janson are: Mark Curry, Greg Castiglioni, Matthew White, Leigh McDonald, Steve Serlin, Julia Nagle, Adam Venus, Laura Main, Poppy Roe, Michelle Bishop and Katie Brayben. 

The musical, which has a book by George Furth, centres on the exploits of Robert (Bobby), a 35-year-old bachelor living in New York. When his (mostly married) friends throw a surprise party for him in his apartment, it sparks a series of vignettes examining the pros and cons of marriage, each featuring one of the couples and Robert. The score includes “Marry Me a Little”, “Being Alive”, “Side by Side” and “You Could Drive a Person Crazy”.

The forthcoming revival will be directed by Joe Fredericks (associate director on Once Upon a Time at the Adelphi) who, according to the Daily Mail, is setting the 1970 show in the present day. 

Company is produced by Joe Fredericks and Holly Reiss for MokitaGrit Productions and Danielle Tarento, in association with Southwark Playhouse.
