'Snow Globe', venue for new year Winter Wassail

Opening: RSC Comedy, Slice, Carol & Wassail

Amongst the major London openings, in the West End and further afield, over the festive fortnight are:

OPENING TUESDAY, 21 December 2010, Paul Hunter's staging of The Comedy of Errors, specially for schools and family audiences, continues the Royal Shakespeare Company's ten-week residency at the Roundhouse, continuing in rep until 1 February 2011.

ALSO ON TUESDAY (previews from 16 December), The Heather Brothers' pastiche 60s musical A Slice of Saturday Night, first seen in the West End in 1989, is revived at Upstairs at the Gatehouse by director John Plews, running until 30 January 2011.

ALSO ON TUESDAY, Another Way Theatre gives Shakespeare's Twelfth Night a "festive music hall twist" at East London venue The Space, until 8 January 2011.

ALSO ON TUESDAY, Nick Pelas' A Certain Library in Bath, an homage to classic cinema combining "Hitchcockian devices, film noir and screwball comedy", is revived for three nights only at the Courtyard Theatre, following a recent run at the Etcetera.


OPENING WEDNESDAY, 22 December 2010 (previews from 21 December), The Horla company’s adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol comes to Trafalgar Studios 2, where it continues until 8 January. Suitable for children ages six and above.


OPENING SATURDAY, 1 January 2011 (previews from 27 November), Gabrieli Consort and Players welcome the new year with Winter Wassail, featuring a wealth of traditional songs and words, at Shakespeare’s Globe. Presented in two half-hour acts, giving plenty of time for mulled wine and hot food, it runs until 3 Jan 2011.
