Unity prepares for Christmas

Actor and comedian Terry Kilkelly returns to the Unity Theatre in Liverpool this December with his comedy Christmas Caper.

The theatre, based in Hope Place in the city centre, said this year’s show is inspired by action films; a homage to espionage, spies and skulduggery.

The show has been described by the Unity as “a very original take on the Nativity story using Mr T's now legendary spectacular puppet shows, some fantastic tunes a fabulously festive set and it promises to be just like a tin of Quality Street - all your favourites, a few surprises and a couple of things that make you feel a bit sick!”

Terry Titters Christmas Caper runs from Thursday 9 December until Saturday 18 December.

Meanwhile, the Unity is continuing the theme of adapting Hans Christian Andersen’s traditional stories in an untraditional way by creating a musical Christmas treat which aims to entertain and amaze people over the festive period.

Following last year’s show, The Snow Queen, the Unity, Patrick Dineen, Petite Ulaloom, RAW Theatre and Hope Street Limited, have all collaborated to bring The Red Shoes to the stage, which promises to be a musical treat.

Director and composer Patrick Dineen said: “Even though it is originated in the 1800’s the story of The Red Shoes is one that has so many similarities to the modern world. The moral of the story is to follow your dream, have a wonderful time and don’t be mean to people – Grace is very mean to some people along her journey so there’s lessons to be learnt from that. It’s an amazing story full of light and dark moments as well as some strong themes to fit what’s happening. It’s framed a bit like the Wizard of Oz – in the middle section of the show all the characters become fantasy. In a completely new concept for unity – the show will be like living in a live cartoon.”

The Red Shoes appears at the Unity on Tuesday 30 November.
