MIF features Wood, Abramovic & Dafoe, July 2011Date: 8 October 2010 The Manchester International Festival returns next year with two new works by polar opposites; Victoria Wood and Marina Abramovic.
Wood’s play, That Day We Sang is about Manchester Children’s Choir in the 1920s, told by a collection of singers reunited in middle age. Wood will also direct the production, which will run at Manchester Opera House from 6 -16 July.
Meanwhile, Abramovic will be joined by a cast of international actors and artists including Willem Dafoe in The Life and Death of Marina Abramovic, which sets out the life of “the grandmother of performance art”. The production will include music by Antony of Antony and the Johnsons. It will run in the Lowry from 9 -16 July.
Further productions will be announced soon.
