Kilburn's Cock Tavern Hosts Edward Bond Season

Date: 7 September 2010

The Cock Tavern Theatre in Kilburn is staging a nine-week Edward Bond season, kicking off later this month, including the UK premiere of his 1993 play Olly's Prison, the first professional production of 2005's The Under Room and a yet-to-be-titled new commission that will receive its world premiere.

The season, which is presented by Adam Spreadbury-Maher and Berislav Juraic for Good Night Out Presents, runs from 14 September to Saturday 13 November 2010 and will showcase six Bond works from six different decades.

The plays featured are: Olly’s Prison (1993), featuring a cast including ex-EastEnder Melissa Suffield; a revival of The Pope’s Wedding (1962); the first professional production of The Under Room (2005); The Fool (1976); the first revival of Red, Black and Ignorant (1985); and the untitled new play.

Bond, one of the most influential post-war British playwrights whose 1965 play Saved was a cause célèbre  for the ending of censorship, now mostly presents his work in Europe, although he did receive his West End premiere in 2008 with Jonathan Kent's revival of The Sea at the Theatre Royal Haymarket.
