Barrowman at Proms In The Park - Salford, 11 Sept

West End star John Barrowman has been announced as the headline act for BBC Proms in the Park alongside other Proms In The park events all over the UK. The Salford Proms In The Park is on Saturday 11 September at Buile Hill Park.

Barrowman will be joined by Salford's own orchestra the BBC Philharmonic. John returned returned to our TV screens last Saturday with Tonight's the Night on BBC One.

He will appear in the BBC Proms in the Park in Salford, which has become the highlight of Salford's musical calendar and which last year pulled in crowds of over 8,000.

Tickets are now on sale for the BBC Proms in the Park in Salford with the BBC Philharmonic.

Full price tickets cost £20, but Salford residents can take advantage of Salford City Council's residents offer until 31 July only, when tickets cost £13.50 each (maximum six per household).

Half of these discounted tickets have already sold out, so Salford residents need to act quickly to secure them.

The concert is part of the BBC's spectacular Last Night of the Proms celebrations, when venues across the UK are invited to host their own Last Night party, building up to a live BBC Big Screen link to the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Excerpts of all the Last Night of the Proms celebrations are broadcast on BBC Radio and Television, with digital viewers also able to watch all the action live from their local park via the red button on their TV remote control.

Known the world over as Captain Jack in Torchwood and Doctor Who, John has most recently been guesting as a villain in the hit US TV series Desperate Housewives.

John started his career as a leading man in West End musicals, starring alongside Elaine Paige in Anything Goes, and has gone on to further success in productions ranging from Chicago, the Phantom of the Opera and Miss Saigon to Love's Labours Lost, Aladdin and A Few Good Men.

He said he is delighted to be taking part in the prestigious event: "It looks set to be a fantastic evening and I'm thrilled to have been invited to perform."

Cllr John Merry, leader of Salford City Council, said: "We are delighted that Salford is one of only a select number of cities taking in part in the world's largest classical music festival. Last year's concert was a phenomenal success and this year it will be even bigger and better.

"It is also a great way to build on our excellent relationship with the BBC Philharmonic which moves to its new home at MediaCityUK at Salford Quays next year."

Concert goers are encouraged to bring picnics, flags and all the family for a truly unforgettable night of world class music making with the BBC Philharmonic.

The full programme for the night along with the other stars support acts is yet to be announced.
