Amongst the major London openings in the West End and beyond this week are:
OPENING TONIGHT, Monday 28 June 2010, London Assurance, starring Simon Russell Beale and Fiona Shaw at the National’s Olivier Theatre, is the latest production to be simultaneously broadcast to cinema screens around the world as part of the NT Live initiative.
OPENING TUESDAY, 29 June 2010 (previews from 24 June), the Open Air Theatre’s summer season continues with The Comedy of Errors, directed by Philip Franks, who has set the action in 1940's Casablanca. Until 31 July.
ALSO ON TUESDAY, Brian Friel's Afterplay is revived for an 11-night run at Pushkin House in central London. The play is set in a cafe in 1920's Moscow, where two characters from Chekhov plays - Sonya Serebriakova from Uncle Vanya and Andrey Prozorov from Three Sisters - encounter each other. Cherie Lunghiand Robert Morgan star.
OPENING WEDNESDAY, 30 June 2010, Best Before, the latest interactive production from Germany’s Rimini Protokoll collective which premiered as part of the Vancouver Winter Olympics cultural programme, arrives at the ICA as part of LIFT (London International Festival of Theatre).
OPENING THURSDAY (previews from 22 June), the Union Theatre joins the plethora of venues marking Stephen Sondheim's 80th birthday this year by reviving his 1991 musical Assassins, a revue-style study of the men and women who have attempted to assassinate American Presidents. Michael Strassen directs, and it continues to 24 July.
