Tweet With WOS & Musical Stars at West End Live

Date: 16 June 2010

If you’re going to West End Live this weekend, do let us and our readers and Twitter followers know! And once you get there, be sure to keep sharing your experiences of the world’s largest free theatre festival, which takes place this Saturday and Sunday, 19-20 June 2010, in London’s Leicester Square.

As part of our ongoing media partnership, we’ve become the official Twitter partners for this year’s West End Live. When you tweet using the #woswelive hashtag, your comments will not only display on Twitter but also here on Whatsonstage.com – on our newly launched, dedicated microsite at www.whatsonstage.com/welive - and, from this weekend, on the event site at www.westendlive.co.uk.

More than 20 top West End musicals are due to take part this weekend. Highlights include turns from 2010 Whatsonstage.com Award winner for Best Actress in a Musical, Sister Act’s Patina Miller; Sheridan Smith as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde; and Hannah Waddingham giving a sneak-peek of her Witch performance in the Open Air Theatre’s upcoming production of Into the Woods, part of the Stephen Sondheim 80th birthday celebrations.

They’ll share the giant open-air stage with performers from recent musical arrivals All the Fun of the Fair, Hair, Love Never Dies, Tap Dogs, Sweet Charity, Brazil! Brazil! and Burn the Floor as well as longer-runners such as Avenue Q, Dirty Dancing, Jersey Boys, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Sister Act, Thriller - Live, We Will Rock You, Wicked, The Lion King, Billy Elliot, Mamma Mia!, Stomp and Grease, and other special guest turns from the likes of the Royal Albert Hall, National Youth Music Theatre and the West End Gospel Choir.

Toby Anstis, the Heart FM presenter who made his stage debut in Grease this year, will help compere on Saturday, with another Whatsonstage.com Award winner, Any Dream Will Do and Avenue Q star Daniel Boys, taking over host duties on Sunday.

And all the proceedings will be cheered on by a mass of fans expected to top 200,000 this year. The annual event is organised by Westminster City Council and supported by the Society of London Theatre. For more information and a full schedule of the days’ performances, visit www.westendlive.co.uk.

The Whatsonstage.com team will be alive and kicking in Leicester Square on both days of the event. Look out for us and our 30-strong team of keen theatregoer volunteers helping to man the stand at the north-west corner of the Square and distribute flyers and magazines throughout – and, of course, tweeting to #woswelive! As part of our special West End Live promotions, we’ll be giving away over £5,000 worth of Radisson Edwardian hotel breaks and offering visitors a £15 discount on annual membership to the Whatsonstage.com Theatre Club.
