Opening: Dogs, Darkly, Punch & West End Live

Amongst the major London openings - in the West End and further afield - this week are:

OPENING TONIGHT, Monday 14 June 2010 (previews from 7 June), Anthony Weigh’s Like a Fishbone premieres at the Bush Theatre, starring Deborah Findlay and directed by artistic director Josie Rourke. Until 10 July.

ALSO TONIGHT, Coming Home, Athol Fugard's follow up to his 1997 play Valley Song, opens at the Arcola as part of a mini-season of the South African playwright's work. Cordelia Monsey directs, and it runs to3 July.

OPENING TUESDAY, 15 June 2010 (previews from 11 June), Brazil! Brazil!, a timely tribute to Brazilian football, dance and music, headlines the E4 Udderbelly season at Southbank Centre until 18 July.

ALSO ON TUESDAY (previews from 15 June), Adam Garcia returns to his dance roots in the London return of Dein Perry’s Tap Dogs at the Novello Theatre (See News, 19 Mar 2010).

ALSO ON TUESDAY, Theatre Royal Stratford East’s reggae musical The Harder They Come visits New Wimbledon Theatre this week as part of an ongoing national tour.

ALSO ON TUESDAY (previews from 9 June), Dandy in the Underworld, written and directed by Tim Fountain based on the memoirs of Soho character and failed suicide Sebastian Horsley, opens at Soho Theatre for a month-long run.

OPENING WEDNESDAY, 16 June (previews from 10 June), Ruth Wilson stars in the world premiere stage adaptation of Ingmar Bergman’s film Through a Glass Darkly, helmed by artistic director Michael Attenborough at the Almeida Theatre (See News, 12 Feb 2010).

ALSO ON WEDNESDAY, Timothy West and Susannah York lead a new tour of Ronald Harwood’s Quartet at Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre this week.

ALSO ON WEDNESDAY (previews from 10 June), a new version of Frank Wedekind’s Lulu, adapted and directed by Anna Ledwich, opens at the Gate Theatre, in collaboration with Headlong Theatre (See News, 16 Apr 2010). Until 10 July.

ALSO ON WEDNESDAY, two 2009 Edinburgh hits get their London premieres: My Name Is Sue at Soho Theatre and Everything Must Go at the Barbican Pit (See News, 11 May 2010).

OPENING THURSDAY, 17 June (previews from 15 June), Giant Olive Theatre Company in association with SOOP presents The Flying Monk, charting the true story of Eilmer, the Malmesbury monk who tried to fly, at the Lion & Unicorn Theatre. Until 10 July.

OPENING FRIDAY, 18 June 2010 (previews from 15 June), Alena Smith’s farce Plucker, about "a new generation dealing with the anxieties of commitment and co-habitation", premieres at Southwark Playhouse, where it runs to 3 July.

OPENING SATURDAY, 19 June 2010 (previews from 11 June), the Royal Court Downstairs is converted into a boxing arena for the world premiere of Roy Williams’ Sucker Punch. The original press night (18 June) was moved to avoid a clash with the England v Algeria world cup game (See News, 20 Apr 2010).

ALSO ON SATURDAY, West End Live, the world’s largest free theatre festival, is mounted for two days in Leicester Square. Now in its sixth year, this year's event takes place from 11am to 6pm on Saturday 20 June and from noon to 6pm on Sunday 21 June (See News, 21 Apr 2010).
