Theatre Ad Infinitum’s Odyssey at Unity

Theatre Ad Infinitum return to the region with its reinvention of Homer’s timeless poem, Odyssey, as part of a five month tour.

The production will finish its tour at The Lowry in Salford Quays in the summer, but visits Liverpool’s Unity Theatre next week, following an appearance at The Rose Theatre in Ormskirk last month.

One actor, one hour, one man’s epic quest, Odyssey follows Greek warrior Odysseus in his relentless attempt to get home so that he can see his wife and son once more before he dies.

Up against the God Poseidon and his hurricanes, nymphs that sexually enslave him; countless characters, creatures and ferocious one-eyed monsters; whatever hardship he endures, Odysseus' tough heart won't give in. But after twenty years away from home, will everything be as he left it?

Odyssey is a devised adaptation performed by George Mann. Director Nir Paldi said: “We wanted to create a dramatic and poetic piece that really works the imagination of the audience: being a one man show this was a big challenge. The magic, characters, spaces, colours, and whole islands are all created by George and I had to push hard to find the precise world of Homer’s Odyssey, this is very much our version, but we wanted to capture the essence and poetics of the piece in what we put on stage.”

Odyssey visits the Unity Theatre on Wednesday 21 April, before it returns to the Northwest at The Lowry for three nights on 17-19 June.
