Rowe & Cox Revisit Sherlock Holmes on Stage

As Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law take on the iconic roles of Holmes and Watson in Guy Ritchie's latest film, actors Nicholas Rowe and Alan Cox, who played the detective duo in 1985 film Young Sherlock Holmes, are set to reprise the roles on stage this weekend for the 2010 London Improvathon.

The Improvathon, which traces its roots back to the late Ken Campbell's “36 hour improvised soap opera” in 2005, is a multi-day marathon of performance entirely improvised in the moment. Presented by award-winning companies The Sticking Place (Showstopper! The Improvised Musical) and Die-Nasty, this year's event takes place continuously for 50 hours from 7pm on 22 January through to 9pm on 24 January 2010 at Hoxton Hall in London.

The event is entitled We Are Not Amused and set in Victorian London using an episodic 'soap opera' format. Rowe and Cox will appear from 9am on Sunday 24 January for 12 hours through to the end of the event at 9pm.

They join a core company of 25 actors and musicians who will improvise twenty-five, two-hour episodes through the days and nights resulting in a “unique and euphoric style of live, ensemble performance”.

Since playing the title role in Young Sherlock Holmes, Nicholas Rowe has forged a successful career on stage and screen, with credits including Guy Richie's hit film Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Alan Cox has found similar success, and worked alongside Rowe in last year's BBC drama Margeret.
