WOS-Backed Jest End Returns for Five-Week RunDate: 7 October 2009
Whatsonstage.com continues its media partnership this winter with JEST END, the West End musical comedy satire, previously entitled So Jest End, which returns home next month to the Jermyn Street Theatre, where it was born last year.
After previous sell-out dates at Jermyn Street, Leicester Square Theatre and, this past April, at the New Players Theatre, the show is on its way to becoming a regular Theatreland fixture and the capital’s “top comedy event for theatrical escapism”. For the new dates, JEST END will move to an earlier evening time slot of 8pm, with Saturday and Sunday matinees at 4pm, and it will run for a full five-week season from 19 November to 20 December 2009 (previews from 17 November).
The Forbidden Broadway-style show, devised and directed by Garry Lake, is given a contemporary twist with regularly updated material parodying the West End’s most popular musicals, including long-runners The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Wicked, Billy Elliot and Avenue Q as well as more recent arrivals Sister Act, Pricilla Queen of the Desert, Oliver!, Hairspray and the upcoming Legally Blonde.
The new outing will be performed by four young West End musical theatre actors: Jodie Jacobs (Little Shop of Horrors, Fame), Yvette Robinson (Evita, The Woman in White), Stuart Matthew Price (Parade) and Chris Thatcher (Avenue Q, Our House).
