New Players Theatre Serves Up Infinite Variety

Date: 10 September 2009

Cabaret and burlesque production agency Whoopee (Nymphaeum) is premiering its latest club night, Infinite Variety, at the New Players Theatre later this month, where it runs from 22 September (previews from 16 September) to 1 November 2009.

Billed as “celebrating the uncomplicated ambitions behind modern British variety: to impact the senses and provide simple delight”, the show features three emerging variety stars - Polly Cupcake, La John Joseph and Gemma Whelan.

Cupcake will lead the show with “renditions of 'Shake Sugaree' and 'Exultant Potentate of Love' ... delivered whilst suspended above the stage"; Joseph is described as a "transdrogynous, transatlantic performance artist"; and Whelan is a tap-dancing member of dance troupe the Whoopee Beaux Belles.

The historic New Players Theatre, located underneath the arches at London’s Charing Cross Station, relaunched last year under new management as a variety house offering a mix of straight plays, musicals, comedy and cabaret (See News, 23 Jul 2009).

Infinite Variety features set design and costumes by Caroline Collinge and musical direction by Marcella Puppini.
