Robyn Peterson in her modelling heyday
Robyn Peterson in her modelling heyday

Edinburgh Catwalk Extends to London Arts, 9 Sep

Date: 13 August 2009

Catwalk Confidential, Robyn Peterson’s one-woman show about her time as a supermodel, will transfer directly to the West End’s Arts Theatre for a limited four weeks from 9 September to 3 October 2009 (previews from 4 September), following its UK premiere season this month at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Before there was Kate, and before there was Naomi, and before there was Claudia, there was Robyn. Catwalk Confidential tells her story. Peterson wrote and developed the show, which she also performs, with her director, Tony Abatemarco.

Part fairy-tale, part memoir, part romance, this funny, cautionary and at times moving tale tells the story of 16-year-old Robyn fresh from Miami, who gets caught up in the world of high fashion amidst the boulevards of Paris in the early 1970s. In a whirlwind of glamour, sex and drugs, Robyn discovers there’s one thing to fear above all else: age. There is always a younger girl waiting to step into your shoes.

Peterson became one of the top models of the period, working with photographers such as Helmut Newton and Guy Bourdin and designers Karl Lagerfeld, Yves Saint Laurent and Kenzo. Her face appeared on the covers of Vogue, Elle and Marie Claire.

Catwalk Confidential originally premiered at the Sidewalk Theatre in Los Angeles, where it played to full, star-studded houses. The production is designed by Tim Crowdy, with lighting by Alistair Grant and sound by Clement Rawling. It’s produced in London by Barbara Broccoli for Eon Productions and Michael Rose Ltd, the team who brought Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to the stage. Their next project together is the Broadway production of A Steady Rain, a new play starring Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman.

In Edinburgh this month, Catwalk Confidential is at Assembly Hall on the Mound, running from 6 to 30 August 2009 at 6.20pm.
