Opening: Enjoy, Awakening, Lear, Bridge, Woman

A busy week of major openings in London includes:

OPENING TONIGHT, Monday 2 February 2009 (previews from 27 January), Alison Steadman and David Troughton lead the cast in Christopher Luscombe’s new production of Alan Bennett’s 1980 comedy Enjoy at the Gielgud Theatre. Until 14 May 2009.

ALSO TONIGHT, (previews from 28 January), Shades by Alia Bano opens at the Royal Court Upstairs, where it runs for a limited season to 14 February.

OPENING TUESDAY, 3 February 2009 (previews from 23 January), the Lyric Hammersmith presents the UK premiere of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Spring Awakening, with a British cast directed by the original creative team. Until 14 March.

ALSO ON TUESDAY, the Traverse Theatre Company production of David Greig’s Damascus transfers to the Tricycle Theatre, where it continues to 7 March.

ALSO ON TUESDAY (preview 2 February), Tom Dalton Bidwell’s Blackpool-set comedy Company Along the Mile opens at the Arcola Theatre Studio 2, continuing until 21 February.

OPENING WEDNESDAY, 4 February 2009 (previews from 30 January), under the direction of Simon McBurney, the European premiere of Complicite’s latest devised work, Shun-Kin, opens at the Barbican Theatre. Until 21 February.

ALSO ON WEDNESDAY, (previews from 29 January), Rupert Goold’s Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse co-production of King Lear opens at the Young Vic, starring Pete Postlethwaite in the title role, running until 29 March.

ALSO ON WEDNESDAY, Peter Hall directs the English Touring Theatre production of Nicki Frei’s new translation of George Feydeau’s farce Where There's a Will at Kingston’s Rose Theatre, running until 14 February prior to a regional tour.

OPENING THURSDAY, 5 February 2009 (previews from 22 January), Ken Stott, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Hayley Atwell star in Arthur Miller’s A View from the Bridge, directed by Lindsay Posner at the Duke of York’s Theatre.

ALSO ON FRIDAY (previews from 3 February), former Neighbours star Mark Little brings his 2000 Olivier Award-winning solo show Defending the Caveman to Leicester Square Theatre, where it runs until 15 March as part of a national tour.

ALSO ON FRIDAY (previews from 3 February), Fiona Morrell directs the UK premiere of The Water's Edge, by acclaimed American playwright Theresa Rebeck, at the Arcola Theatre, until 28 February.

ALSO ON FRIDAY, Totally Looped, an movie-based comedy show featuring the likes of Marcus Brigstocke, Phill Jupitus and Sanjeev Bhaskar, visits the Yvonne Arnaud in Guildford as part of a national tour. For one night only.
