RSC's Two Masters Receives Third London Outing
Date: 29 June 2001

The Royal Shakespeare Company's acclaimed adaptation of A Servant to Two Masters is returning to London for a third stint. The production will play at the Albery Theatre, with previews from 18 July 2001 before opening on 24 July.

The same show was last seen in the West End earlier this year at the New Ambassadors Theatre, having previously played at the Young Vic in January 2000. Since the New Ambassadors run, the play has embarked on a UK tour and also called at New York, Hong Kong, Washington DC, Perth and Tel Aviv.

Jason Watkins retains his role as the servant in Carlo Goldini's Commedia, in which idle Venetian scrounger Truffaldino suddenly finds himself with two new serving jobs on the same day. However, his striving to keep the two masters apart results in much deception, disguise and unrequited love. The RSC's version was adapted by Lee Hall, from Gwenda Pandolfi's translation, and directed by Tim Supple.

Hall, who has written for theatre, television and radio, was Academy Award -nominated for his debut film script Billy Elliot. His stage works include Spoonface Steinberg, performed at the National, and Cooking With Elvis which starred Frank Skinner at the Whitehall Theatre.
