McCormack & Hughes Debut Kiss at Soho, 21 May

A play by Chris Chibnall, the first new talent to emerge from the Soho Theatre's Writers' Attachment Programme, will run at the venue from 21 May through to 16 June, with previews from 16 May. Entitled Kiss Me Like You Mean It, the work was commissioned by Soho Theatre and is Chibnall's first full-length production.

The story is centred around two very different couples on a hot summer's night, and promises "choices, curry, condoms, love and death."

The cast features Catherine McCormack, who was nominated for an Olivier this year for the National's production of All My Sons and whose movie appearances include Braveheart, Land Girls and This Year's Love. Jason Hughes, familiar as Warren from BBC2's This Life drama, will also star. Hughes' stage credits contain Look Back In Anger at the National Theatre and The Herbal Bed for the Royal Shakespeare Company.

In addition to his theatre work, Chibnall has recently written for television's Crossroads soap, and has also scripted an episode of the forthcoming ITV series First Sign of Madness. Kiss Me Like You Mean It is to be directed by Soho Theatre's Artistic Director, Abigail Morris. Design is courtesy of Will Hargreaves, with lighting by Jason Taylor and sound from John Leonard.

The Soho Theatre receives, and encourages, hundreds of unsolicited manuscripts every year. Writers displaying obvious talent may then be contacted to take part in discussions, interviews or workshops. Six writers are then chosen annually to further demonstrate their potential, and Chibnall is a product of the first scheme which began in March 2000.

Kiss Me Like You Mean It will be followed by School Play, written by Suzy Almond who also completed the Writers' Attachment Programme last year.
