Miles & Casey Transfer Well to Apollo for New Year

Date: 3 November 2008

Following a run at the 100-seat Trafalgar Studios 2, the European premiere production of Well, Lisa Kron’s semi-autobiographical 2006 Tony-nominated Broadway comedy, will transfer to the Apollo Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue for a strictly limited season from 30 December 2008 (preview 29 December) to 24 January 2009.

Original stars Sarah Miles (Oscar nominated for Ryan’s Daughter) and Natalie Casey (Fame, The Wedding Singer on stage, Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps on screen) will reprise their roles as mother and daughter Anne and Lisa, and will be joined in the new run by Oliver Chris (TV’s The Office, Green Wing).

Lisa Kron, an avant-garde New York performance artist, was sick and then she got well. Her neighbourhood was sick and then it got well. It’s as simple as that – or is it? When Lisa decided to writer her mother into her latest play, she went a step too far. The author played herself in the original New York production.

In London, Well was first staged at Trafalgar Studios 2 from 4 to 27 September (See News, 28 Aug 2008). It’s directed by Eve Leigh, designed by Helen Goddard and presented by Henry Filloux-Bennett with Alex Segal. The transfer is presented by Henry Filloux-Bennett, Stephen Makin and The Fish Partnership.

Currently at the Apollo, the stage adaptation of the 1988 Oscar-winning film Rain Man, starring Hollywood’s Josh Hartnett and Adam Godley, is due to complete its limited season on 20 December (See Review Round-up, 22 Sep 2008). Well is followed by another play with “rain” in the title, Richard Greenberg’s Three Days of Rain, which runs from 10 February to 2 May 2009 (previews from 30 January) and stars James McAvoy and Nigel Harman (See News, 24 Oct 2008).
