Kendal Leads WOS Mag's Noël Coward Special
Kendal Leads WOS Mag's Noël Coward Special
Date: 1 February 2008

The latest issue of our sister print title What’s On Stage Magazine is out today, available in 35 participating London theatres as well as selected hotels, restaurants and tourist bureaux.

This month we’ve got a three-part Noël Coward Special Feature, comprising:

  • KENDAL ACTS BEASTLY - Coward’s The Vortex created a sensation in 1925, but is it a play for today? Felicity Kendal tells Roger Foss why she’s convinced that it is.

  • CLASS ACT - A new exhibition at the National Theatre celebrates the Master’s many star qualities.

  • THEATRE GOES TO THE MOVIES - Silver screen romance makes a comeback when Kneehigh Theatre stages Coward’s Brief Encounter in a West End cinema.

    Also in the February issue:

  • AWARDS ALL OVER - Four jam-packed pages of Theatregoers’ Choice Awards activity, including pictures from the nominations launch party and building excitement for the inaugural Year on Year Concert.

  • PERFORMING PINTER - With Harold Pinter’s The Homecoming opening at the Almeida and a double bill at the Comedy Theatre, Michael Coveney asks Kenneth Cranham and Timothy West about the pleasures – and pauses - of playing Pinter. (An abridged version of this article is also on the main website – get a sneak peek by clicking here…)

We’ve also got all of your favourite regular magazine sections, including Headliners (news, previews and a snippet interview with Scarborough’s Daniel Mays), Up for Grabs competitions, Limelight pictures, this month’s What’s On Guide diary and listings, Brief Encounter (with comedian Jo Brand, who makes her musical debut this month as the Sergeant of Police in The Mikado), Recommended (theatregoer raves about recent openings) and, last but not least, Critical Comment, in which our columnist, Guardian critic Michael Billington, puts in a plea for downsizing large-scale musicals and upsizing studio plays.

Copies of the magazine at its various outlets are often scooped up very fast. To get future copies sent to your home, why not subscribe to our Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers’ Club? Membership also gains you advance, discount booking on our ever-popular Outings and exclusive access to Whatsonstage.com Wednesdays and other discounts – click here for more information.
