Apollo Stages Solo Audience with the Mafia, 21 Jan

Date: 6 December 2007

A one-man show entitled An Audience with a Mafia will play a limited West End season at the Apollo Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue, from 21 January to 16 February 2008.

An Audience with the Mafia takes the audience on a journey from the birth of the American Mafia a century ago, through prohibition and the Mafia wars of the Roaring Twenties, and featuring the Jews who built Las Vegas and the true story of Frank Sinatra and the Mob.

The production also offers the audience the opportunity to meet legendary gangsters - Al Capone, “Lucky” Luciano, Meyer Lansky, “Bugsy” Siegel, “Dutch” Schultz and not forgetting Murder Incorporated - the elite squad of assassins employed by the Mafia. The piece is narrated by “The Mercy Man”, a character based on an assassin employed by the mob.

Prior to this limited West End season, An Audience with the Mafia toured in Europe and the US. It previously had a London season at the New End Theatre in Hampstead in spring 2003.

An Audience with the Mafia fills a brief gap at the Apollo ahead of the West End transfer of Sir Peter Hall’s revival of Noel Coward’s 1924 play The Vortex, starring Felicity Kendal and Dan Stevens, which runs from 20 February to 7 June 2008 (See News, 23 Nov 2007). Currently at the theatre, Glengarry Glen Ross, headed by Jonathan Pryce and Aidan Gillen, finishes its season on 12 January 2008.
