WOS Magazine Hails King McKellen & Seeks Susan

WOS Magazine Hails King McKellen & Seeks Susan

Date: 5 November 2007

The latest issue of our sister print title What’s On Stage Magazine is out now, available in 35 participating London theatres as well as selected hotels, restaurants and tourist bureaux.

Amongst the great features on offer this month are:

  • CROWNING GLORIES - As Ian McKellen leads Royal Shakespeare Company productions of King Lear and The Seagull into London, Michael Coveney celebrates the actor’s stage career and his long-standing connections with the RSC, now establishing exciting new links with London.

  • BLONDE SEEKS BLONDIE - Roger Foss searches for the story behind the new screen-to-stage musical Desperately Seeking Susan, set to the music of Blondie.

  • STAGES IN A STATE - In an extract from his new book State of the Nation, Michael Billington wonders if celebrity casting is a curse or a blessing. (An abridged version of this article is also on the website this week – get a sneak peek by clicking here…)

  • YULE BE HAPPY - Find out where to go for this year’s top Christmas shows and pantomimes.

We’ve also got all of your favourite regular magazine sections, including Headliners (news, previews and snippet interviews, including one with Benedict Cumberbatch, star of The Arsonists and Rhinoceros at the Royal Court), Up for Grabs competitions, Limelight pictures, this month’s What’s On Guide diary and listings, Brief Encounter (with Kwame Kwei-Armah, whose new play Statement of Regret premieres this month), Recommended (theatregoer raves about recent openings), Staying In (reviews of new book, CD and DVD releases) and, last but not least, Critical Comment, in which our columnist, Guardian critic Michael Billington, this month wonders why British playwrights have lost faith.

Copies of the magazine at its various outlets are often scooped up very fast. To get future copies sent to your home, why not subscribe to our Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers’ Club?
