Extensions: Musical of Musicals & Blue Man Group

Two Off-Broadway to London transfers - Blue Man Group and The Musical of Musicals (The Musical) - have extended their booking periods.

At the New London Theatre, Blue Man Group has added six months to its schedule, taking it up to 21 October 2007 (it was previously booking to 1 April 2007). The show had its UK premiere at the New London on 14 November 2005 (previews from 10 November). In it, a silent, blue-skinned, bald-headed trio take audiences through a multi-sensory experience combining theatre, percussive music, art, science and vaudeville.

Blue Man Group has developed a sizeable following since its Off-Broadway debut in 1991, and the show has now been seen by over 10 million people. In addition to the long-running New York production, there are now shows in Las Vegas, Chicago and Boston, and another one is due to open in Florida in 2007.

The group has also released two albums, Audio and The Complex, and created installations, "happenings", "unusual ads" and a number of TV-specific performances, including ITV’s London weather bulletins (See The Goss, 16 Mar 2006). The group was founded by long-time friends Matt Goldman, Phil Stanton and Chris Wink.

Meanwhile, The Musical of Musicals (The Musical), which returned to the London fringe with a limited Christmas season at North London’s King’s Head theatre (See News, 3 Nov 2006), has extended its stay by two weeks.

The show, which opened on 7 December 2006 (previews from 5 December), was originally booking to 14 January 2007. It will now play until 28 January 2007. The 2003 Off-Broadway hit had its UK premiere this past March at Leicester Square’s Sound Theatre (See News, 8 Mar 2006), which closed in September to make way for a new hotel complex.

The Musical of Musicals (The Musical) first opened in December 2003 at the New York-based York Theatre Company. The show was nominated for five 2004 Drama Desk Awards, including Best Musical, and the 2004 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Musical, as well as the 2005 Drama League nomination for Best Musical. The London production stars Paul Baker, Julie-Alanah Brighten, Susannah Fellows and Ian McLarnon.
