US Menopause Musical Sets UK Premiere for March

Date: 12 October 2006

The hit American musical comedy Menopause The Musical - written and produced by Jeanie Linders and featuring 25 re-written pop parodies used to tell the story of women going through the change - will receive its UK premiere at London’s Shaw Theatre in March 2007 (exact dates still tbc).

Since it first opened in Orlando, Florida, in 2001, the show has been seen by more than eight million people (mainly women) in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Korea, Malaysia and the Philippines, and has garnered a cult following. Menopause The Musical is now in its sixth season in Orlando, and will reopen Off-Broadway in February 2007, while productions in South Africa and Israel open later this year.

Four women - Power Woman, Soap Star, Earth Mother and Iowa Housewife - at a Bloomingdale’s lingerie sale have nothing in common… apart from a black lace bra, hot flushes, night sweats, memory loss, chocolate binges, not enough or too much sex, and troubles with their mothers.

Linders said in a press statement: “I am delighted to be able to present Menopause the Musical in London. We have had many emails from women who have seen the show in Australia and the United States in which they urge me to bring it to London. So, ladies, here we come!”

The US creative team will audition British actresses over the coming weeks. The full cast is expected to be announced at the end of November.
