Vince Vaughn Joins UK Stars for 24 Hours at Old Vic

Date: 6 October 2006

Hollywood star Vince Vaughn (pictured) will join 25 other actors including Anthony Head, Clare Higgins, Tamzin Outhwaite, Clarke Peters, Rachael Stirling, Dominic West and Alicia Witt in the Old Vic’s third annual 24 Hour Plays Celebrity Gala this Sunday, 8 October 2006.

The event - introduced by Old Vic artistic director Kevin Spacey and hosted by comedienne and actress Catherine Tate - provides a unique opportunity to see work by leading actors, writers and directors as the team is challenged to write, rehearse and perform six short plays in just 24 hours on the Old Vic stage.

The performance will be followed by a glamorous after-show party and all proceeds support Old Vic New Voices, part of the Old Vic’s commitment to nurturing new talent, developing new work, attracting new audiences and engaging the local community. Over the last two years, the Old Vic 24 Hour Plays Celebrity Galas have raised over £110,000 to support OVNV developmental work.

Vaughn’s film credits include hit comedies The Wedding Crashers, Dodgeball, Swingers and, more recently, The Break-Up. Other actors taking part this weekend include: Alexander Armstrong, Jonathan Cake, Dexter Fletcher, Tom Hardy, Patricia Hodge, Tom Hollander, Adrian Lukis, Nichola McAuliffe, Nick Moran and Greta Scacchi.

Confirmed writers for the event include: April de Angelis, Simon Farquhar, Bryony Lavery, Colin Teevan and Sally Wainwright, with directors to include Robert Delamere, Nikolai Foster, Tim Roseman, Josie Rourke, Indhu Rubasingham, Bijan Shebani and Snoo Wilson.

Spacey commented: “The 24 Hour Plays is an incredible event both for actors and for the audience. I'm thrilled that Vince has agreed to join the cast for this very special night at the Old Vic. He's a great guy and will be a terrific presence on stage - the audience is in for a real treat."

Producer Kate Pakenham, who brought the 24 Hour Plays concept over from the US, where founder of the 24 Hour Company, Tina Fallon, had originated the idea, commented: "The 24 Hour Plays is a hugely challenging and energising event for everyone involved. It thrilled me to see what wonderful plays were written in such a short time last year, and - with a team of this calibre - I am extremely excited to see how they will rise to the challenge this year."
