Seven Brides Posts Early Closing Notices, 18 Nov

Having previously extended its booking period into the New Year to February 2007 (See News 14 Sep 2006), Seven Brides for Seven Brothers has now posted early closing notices and will finish on 18 November 2006. Following extensive regional touring, the production opened on 16 August 2006 (previews from 10 August) at the Haymarket, where it had originally been booking to 25 November (See News, 13 Apr 2006).

In Oregon circa 1850, Adam goes to town to get a wife. Having convinced Milly to marry him, he brings her back to his backwoods cabin, where she discovers he has six live-in younger brothers who are anxious to get wives of their own.

The stage version of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is based on the 1954 Oscar-winning MGM musical, which starred Howard Keel as Adam and Jane Powell as Milly, the parts taken on stage now by Dave Willetts and Shona Lindsay. The musical has a book by Lawrence Kasha and David S Landay, music by Gene De Paul, lyrics by Johnny Mercer, and new songs by Al Kasha and Joel Hirschhorn.

The UK production, directed by Maurice Lane, had been touring on and off since 2001, when Sam Kane first played Adam. The leg of the tour which preceded its run at the Haymarket started in August 2005 and continued until 1 July 2006. The show is designed by Natalie Cole, choreographed by Adrian Allsop and presented by Martin Dodd and Peter Frosdick for UK Productions Ltd.

No further productions have been announced for the theatre.
