Raine Rabbit Hops to West End’s Trafalgar Studios

Raine Rabbit Hops to West End’s Trafalgar Studios

Date: 21 July 2006

As previously tipped (See The Goss, 6 Jul 2006), Nina Raine’s debut play Rabbit, which had a star-studded fringe premiere at Islington’s Old Red Lion pub theatre in May (See News, 18 May 2006), will transfer to the West End’s Trafalgar Studio 2 this autumn. It will open on 7 September 2006 (previews from 5 September) for a five-week run to 7 October 2006.

Raine, who is best known as a director, was shortlisted for the 2004 Verity Bargate Award for the play. She recently completed her second play, Tiger Country, a commission from Hampstead Theatre. Her directing credits include Unprotected at the Liverpool Everyman theatre and the Traverse, and Vermillion Dream at the Salisbury Playhouse. She was assistant director to Laurence Boswell on The Holy Terror and Dominic Cooke on Fucking Games at the Royal Court.

Rabbit takes a candid look at the uncivil war between the sexes and the difficult relationship that exists between a young woman and her father.

The high-profile cast of regulars from the West End, the RSC and elsewhere in the play’s original run included Charlotte Randle (Don Carlos, Lobby Hero), Susannah Wise (Festen, Three Sisters, When Harry Met Sally), Hilton McRae (Twelfth Night, My One and Only, Mamma Mia!) as well as Ruth Everett, Rocky Marshall and Adam James. Casting for the transfer is not yet confirmed, though some of the original company will accompany the production.

Currently at Trafalgar Studio 2, Kate Williams performs a Jean Cocteau double bill, Human Voice and Sound of Silence, for a season to 12 August 2006 (See News, 9 Mar 2006).
