Critics vs Theatregoers' Choice: The Final Tallies...Date: 31 January 2006
The 17th annual Critics’ Circle Theatre Awards Ceremony is now at the party stage at the West End’s Prince of Wales Theatre, as the final results have been announced and the winners have collected their awards. The event was hosted by Drama Section chair Charles Spencer (of the Daily Telegraph) with comedian and guest speaker Arthur Smith. The results from the Critics’ Circle were announced simultaneously with our own Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers’ Choice Awards live at today’s event.
The Critics’ Circle Awards cover Most Promising Newcomer, Most Promising Playwright, Best Designer, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Shakespearean Performance, Best Director, Best New Play and Best Musical – and are announced in that order, along with the equivalent Theatregoers’ Choice category.
This coverage will be followed later today by a separate story featuring winners’ photos and acceptance speech highlights from the Critics’ Circle Awards. Full results across all other categories in the sixth annual Theatregoers’ Choice Awards – and analysis - will also be published on the site this afternoon.
