Tozer's Vixens Posts Closing Notices at the Venue

Sci-fi musical Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens, starring Faye Tozer of pop band Steps fame, has posted early closing notices at The Venue in Leicester Square. The production opened on 6 December 2005 (previews from 24 November) and had been booking to 11 February 2006. It will now close on 4 February 2006 after a run of two months.

Set in a seedy bar on the planet Frottage III, a debauched space age haven for gender outlaws and plastic worshippers, Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens follows a cosmic investigation into the mysterious murders of a number of talented but obscure cabaret artistes. All have been found brutally slain with a sequined stiletto embedded in their chests. It is up to the Space Vixens - crime-fighting, Glitter-Boot-wearing, federal agents from a 'groovier' galaxy - to find out the true identity of the killer.

Tozer - who plays Space Vixen, Jubilee Climax - is joined in the cast by Scott Baker (Saucy Jack), Mark Carroll, Paul Christopher, Carl Mullaney, Joel Karie, Carmen Cusack, Melitsa Nicola and Gemma Zirfas.

The production is directed by Michael Fidler with choreography by TV’s Strictly Come Dancing panellist Bruno Tonioli, design by Liz Cooke, lighting by Hansjorg Schmidt and sound by Mike Walker. It’s presented by TWF Theatrical Productions.

First seen in 1995 at the Edinburgh Fringe, where it won a Fringe First, Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens was expanded into a full-scale musical, which transferred to Shaftesbury Avenue’s 990-seat Queen’s Theatre in 1998. Since then, it has toured regionally and had long-running cabaret success in a bar under the arches at London Bridge. It has a book by Charlotte Mann, music by Jonathan Croose and Robin Forrest and lyrics by Charlotte Mann and Michael Fidler.

No further productions have yet been confirmed for The Venue, though the transfer of another Edinburgh hit Pete and Dud - Come Again has previously been tipped for the theatre (See The Goss, 6 Sep 2005). The show, written by Stage journalists Nick Awde and Chris Bartlett, celebrates the partnership of comedians Peter Cook and Dudley Moore.
