Opening: Christie's And Then, Pirandello & Dillane

Among the major shows opening in London this week are:

OPENING TUESDAY, 25 October 2005 (previews from 14 October), Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None is revived in a new stage version written by Kevin Elyot and directed by Steven Pimlott at the West End’s Gielgud Theatre (See News, 13 May 2005). Previously titled “Ten Little Indians” and first seen on stage in 1943, the play involves ten strangers, with apparently nothing in common, stranded at an exclusive island mansion during a storm with a murderer in their midst. The cast includes Tara Fitzgerald, Gemma Jones, Richard Johnson and Graham Crowden.

ALSO ON TUESDAY, Forced Entertainment return to Riverside Studios with last year’s hit Bloody Mess, which runs to 31 October 2005 and is followed by the London premiere of their latest work, Exquisite Pain from 1 to 6 November 2005.

OPENING WEDNESDAY, 26 October 2005 (previews from 20 October), Sam Shepard’s black comedy The God of Hell receives its European premiere at the Donmar Warehouse (See News, 27 May 2005). Kathy Burke directs a cast that includes Trainspotting’s Ewen Bremner, Stuart McQuarrie, Lesley Sharp and Whatsonstage.com and Olivier Award winner Ben Daniels.


OPENING THURSDAY, 27 October 2005 (previews from 21 October) Whatsonstage.com Award winner Kristin Scott Thomas and Bob Hoskins star in Hugh Whitemore’s new adaptation of Pirandello’s As You Desire Me, at the West End’s Playhouse Theatre (See News, 26 Jul 2005). The play concerns the identity of a mysterious woman in post-war Berlin and her writer lover. Former Almeida artistic director Jonathan Kent directs the cast which also features Margaret Tyzack, John Carlisle and Finbar Lynch.

ALSO ON THURSDAY (previews from 25 October), Birmingham Stage Company presents the British premiere of Australian writer Reg Cribb’s second play, The Return, at the Old Red Lion in Islington for a limited season to 26 November 2005.


OPENING FRIDAY, 28 October 2005 (previews from 26 October), Stephen Dillane brings his solo interpretation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth to the Almeida Theatre for ten performances only to 5 November (See News, 10 Jun 2005). Incorporating each individual character as if they’re sliding in and out of Macbeth's conscience, this re-imagining of the play has been developed by Dillane and director Travis Preston with the support of the Sundance Theater Lab in Los Angeles. Dillane performs to the accompaniment of three live jazz musicians.
