Union Launches Annual Terror Fest for Halloween

Following the success of last year’s Terror 2004!, experimental company the Sticking Place is launching its festival of horror theatre an annual fixture in the lead-up during the Halloween season. As part of that, Terror 2005! Theatre of Horror and Grand Guignol, launches at the Union Theatre, Southwark tomorrow (13 October, previews from 11 October) and continues to 5 November 2005.

The season features poetry, puppetry and a host of spine-tingling thrillers to celebrate the most basic human emotion. Highlights in the first part of the season include productions of Darren Ormandy’s DeSade, HG Wells’ The Red Room adapted and directed by Justin Butcher, Edgar Allan Poe’s The Premature Burial adapted by Adam Meggido, Graham Greene’s The End of the Party adapted by William Stewart, Ambrose Bierce’s My Favourite Murder adapted by Jamie Stewart, and The Witch of Coos, Robert Frost’s poetic chiller, directed by Ben Nealon.

From 25 October 2005, there will be productions of Sean McCann’s Workprint and Marcus Daley’s new adaptation of The Monkey’s Paw from the classic tale by WW Jacobs.

Halloween night (Monday 31 October 2005) will be celebrated with magic, poetry and the Society of Wonders. Throughout the season, there will also be curtain raisers, cabaret, contemporary puppet shows and other oddities.

The Sticking Place’s previous productions include Best Men and Between Women, The Lie, Dark Meaning Mouse, The End of the Sentence, Lunatics' Tango, Bewitching, Burlesque, The Guerrilla Theatre Experiments and US Revisited - a public screening and debate with Peter Brook and Glenda Jackson.
