Triplett Takes Over as Chicago’s Latest Roxie Hart
Date: 17 August 2005

As previously tipped (See The Goss, 9 Aug 2005), Whatsonstage.com Award winner Sally Ann Triplett will star as murderess and wannabe jazz singer Roxie Hart in the hit Kander and Ebb musical Chicago at the West End’s Adelphi Theatre. She takes over from Frances Ruffelle - who has extended her contract to 9 September 2005 - for an eight-week run from 12 September to 5 November 2005.

Triplett’s numerous West End credits include Reno Sweeney in the Olivier Award-winning National Theatre revival of Anything Goes, and Miss Berta in Victoria Wood’s Acorn Antiques. She has also had major roles in Cats, Golden Boy, Rags, Jolson, Cabaret and Oliver.

For four weeks, from 30 August to 24 September 2005, Rachel Stanley will play Velma Kelly. Stanley appeared alongside Triplett in Anything Goes. Her other credits include the national tour of Chicago, Singin' in the Rain and My One and Only. After Stanley’s stint, Velma will be played by Amra-Faye Wright, who was also in the national tour of Chicago. She remains in the role until 5 November 2005.

Musicality winner Matthew Goodgame will make his professional debut playing slick lawyer Billy Flynn from 30 August to 3 September 2005, and from 5 September to 5 November 2005 the role will be played by Terence Maynard, whose stage credits include Twelfth Night and Julius Caesar at the Globe. On television, Maynard has appeared in Doctors, Silent Witness, Little Britain and EastEnders.

Roxie’s put-upon husband Amos Hart will be played by Victor McGuire for the full eight weeks of Triplett’s run. McGuire’s television work includes Bread, Goodnight Sweetheart, Peak Practice, Heartbeat and Dalziel and Pascoe. Zee Asha will continue in her role as prison matron Mamma Morton.

Chicago is directed by Walter Bobbie, with choreography by Ann Reinking in the style of Bob Fosse, and produced by the Chicago Partnership. The Olivier Award-winning London production celebrates its eighth anniversary at the Adelphi in November 2005. The show is currently booking to 25 February 2006.
