London Kids Week Runs for Fortnight from 19 AugDate: 16 August 2005
Young people are being given the opportunity to experience theatreland for free, with the eighth annual Kids Week, which launches this Friday (19 August 2005). Run by the Society of London Theatre (SOLT), the scheme has proved so popular that this year - despite its name - it will run for a full fortnight to 2 September 2005.
Children aged five to 16 can take part in a number of theatre workshops and enjoy top West End shows for free when accompanied by a full paying adult (a further two children can attend at half price).
Shows involved in the scheme include: The Lion King, The Wind in the Willows, The King and I, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Fame and the stage adaptation of Midnight by best-selling children’s author Jacqueline Wilson.
Workshops encourage children to encompass all areas of theatre, from dancing with cast members of Chicago and The Big Life and singing songs from The Lion King, to writing their own plays at Soho Theatre. Children can also go behind the scenes and see the costumes worn by dancers of the English National Ballet. For the under fives, there will be pre-school activities at the Theatre Museum in Covent Garden and performances of children’s stories.
There are also deals on travel and accommodation for families throughout the UK during the Kids Week season, as well as free meals for children at participating restaurants. For more information, visit the Kids Week website.
