Janie Dee
Janie Dee
Lloyd Webber Joins Dee for Song Premiere, 4 May
Date: 29 April 2005

A rather special addition to Janie Dee’s new cabaret show at the Shaw Theatre next week (See News, 3 Feb 2005): it will include the world premiere of a new song by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Not only that, but for the opening night on Wednesday 4 May, the composer himself will be on hand to accompany Dee (pictured) in performance.

The song, "All the Love I Have", was originally written for Lloyd Webber’s football-themed musical set in Northern Ireland, The Beautiful Game, which premiered at the West End’s Cambridge Theatre in September 2000. Ben Elton has since written new lyrics and Lloyd Webber has re-orchestrated the number.

"It's just so beautiful, I literally swooned when he played it for me this week," Dee commented. "To have Andrew play for me on my opening night is going to make it an unforgettable experience."

Earlier in her career, Dee appeared in Lloyd Webber’s Cats, while her many other musical credits include Carousel (for which she won her first Olivier), My One and Only, Oklahoma!, The Sound of Music and South Pacific. She’s also been seen on stage Between the Lines, Design for Living, Betrayal (for which she was nominated for a Whatsonstage.com Award last year) and, in 2000, Alan Ayckbourn’s Comic Potential for which she won Best Actress accolades at the Laurence Olivier, Evening Standard and Critics’ Circle Awards before the comedy’s New York transfer.

This summer Dee will play Beatrice in Peter Hall’s production of Much Ado About Nothing at the Theatre Royal Bath (See News, 14 Apr 2005). On the cabaret front, Dee starred in the 2002 Divas at the Donmar season and had a sold-out season at Pizza on the Park last year. Her CDs include the one-woman show I.D., The Shakespeare Revue, Salad Days, Can Can and Cabaret.

Dee’s new cabaret show, which continues until 8 May 2005, is part of the Shaw’s Musical Ladies and Gentlemen of the Stage season. The season also includes Chicago stars Rebecca Thornhill and Josefina Gabrielle in concert together and a re-worked and updated version of Ron Moody’s acclaimed one-man show, Ron Moody: Move Along...Sideways.
