Dee & Moody Launch New Cabaret Season at Shaw

Date: 3 February 2005

Double Olivier Award winner Janie Dee (pictured) and character actor Ron Moody will headline a new cabaret season, Musical Ladies and Gentlemen of the Stage, at London’s Shaw Theatre this spring. Dee, in her first stage appearance since the September birth of her second child, will perform a brand new cabaret show from 4 to 8 May 2005 while Moody will present a re-worked and updated version of his acclaimed one-man show, Ron Moody: Move Along...Sideways, from 17 to 22 May.

Dee’s many musical credits include Carousel (for which she won her first Olivier), My One and Only, Oklahoma!, The Sound of Music and South Pacific. Her other stage credits include Between the Lines, Design for Living, Betrayal (for which she was nominated for a Whatsonstage.com Award last year) and, in 2000, Alan Ayckbourn’s Comic Potential for which she won Best Actress accolades at the Laurence Olivier, Evening Standard and Critics’ Circle Awards before the comedy’s New York transfer.

On the cabaret front, Dee starred in the 2002 Divas at the Donmar season and had a sold-out season at Pizza on the Park last year. Her CDs include the one-woman show I.D., The Shakespeare Revue, Salad Days, Can Can and Cabaret.

Moody became an international star through his creation of Fagin in both the stage and screen versions of Lionel Bart’s Oliver!. Ron Moody: Move Along...Sideways, in which he portrays more than 50 different characters from his expansive career, ran at the Theatre Royal Stratford East nearly a decade ago, when it extended for seven weeks.

Musical Ladies and Gentlemen of the Stage is presented by Barry J Mishon in association with the Shaw Theatre.
