Amongst the major shows opening in London this week are:

OPENING MONDAY, 20 December 2004 (previews from 16 December), in a specially erected marquee on Clapham Common, is Quest - Legend of the Green Knight, a family spectacle based on the fable of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. The production features circus skills – including live horses, acrobatics and jousting – and is directed by Charlotte Conquest. It runs until 3 January 2005.

ALSO TODAY Dr Bunhead's Recipe for Disaster, the West End’s Comedy Theatre hosts Dr Bunhead for a limited Christmas season from tonight, 20 December 2004 to 2 January 2005. The family-friendly science show enjoyed a successful run at the Assembly Rooms during this summer’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival. (See News, 16 Nov 2004).

ALSO TODAY comedian Neil Smith will share the stage with Dr Bunhead. Smith performs his stand-up show, Dante's Inferno, in the evenings (from 8.00pm) while Dr Bunhead's scientific show for children will fill two afternoon slots at 1.45pm and 4.30pm, with both running from 20 December 2004 to 2 January 2005 (see News, 9 December 2005).

OPENING TUESDAY, 21 December 2004 (previews from 16 December), the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of Romeo and Juliet transfers to the West End’s Albery Theatre (See News, 15 Jul 2004). The second of the company’s season of Tragedies seen earlier this year at Stratford and Newcastle, it follows Toby Stephen’s just-finished Hamlet and will in turn be followed by Greg Hicks’ Macbeth and Corin Redgrave’s King Lear in the new year.

Directed by Peter Gill, Romeo and Juliet stars Sian Brooke and Matthew Rhys as the star-crossed lovers in Shakespeare’s tale of feuding families and a doomed teenage romance. It continues until 8 January 2005.
